People from Bangladesh began migrating to Australia in the 1970s, with numbers increasing in the 1980s and 90s, and growing significantly since then. Most of the early migrants are now retired or nearing retirement, having contributed to the development, values, and culture of their adopted country through their work and community service.
To mark Australia Day 2025, the Bangladeshi Seniors Club (the Club) plans to bring together the older and younger generations of Bangladeshi Australians to reflect on the contributions of Bangladeshi migrants to Australian society and culture over the years and celebrate the community's achievements.
The Club plans to organise a day-long event (from 10am to 5pm) with storytelling, Australia Day-themed food, and music to reflect on and celebrate the Bangladeshi Australian journey.
