Award winning young entrepreneur and founder of Silver Hill Fisch

Maja Veit

Maja started her business Silver Hill Fisch in 2010 producing and selling boutique seafood sausages made from whole Tasmanian ingredients that are both preservative and gluten free.  Just six weeks after starting production Silver Hill Fisch won a Silver Medal at the Tasmanian Royal Fine Food Awards.
Maja founded her business in Cygnet in the Huon Valley after a number of years working in the seafood industry around Hobart and listening to customer feedback combined with over 10 years’ experience in the hospitality industry. She applied her graphic design skills to develop the business logo, signage and stickers and a custom-fitted mobile food van for “easy trade” at small events and markets.
Specialising in the niche production of a 'healthy BBQ alternative' Maja created a number of Atlantic Salmon and Ocean Trout sausages. Silver Hill Fisch has featured at festivals and events throughout Tasmania in recent years and retails weekly at Salamanca Market as well as selected deli's around the Hobart area. She also holds a pop-up food stall in Darwin these days, at the famous Mindil Beach Sunset Markets, and retails her product throughout deli’s in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
Maja’s business was awarded 'Best New Entry' at the Taste Festival 2011/12. Maja was also winner of her category for the 2013 Southern Cross Young Achiever Awards and was a finalist in the 2013 Tasmanian Seafood Industry Awards – for both the Young Achiever and Small Business Award categories. She was also awarded 2013 Huon Show – Best Commercial Exhibit, and was a past finalist in the SBS Delicious Magazine Produce Awards.
