First Tasmanian Aussie of the Month
Profile of Tasmania's first Aussie of the Month winner, Oliver Hovenden.

The first official Aussie of the Month winner in Tasmania was Oliver Hovenden, a student from Lansdowne Crescent Primary School.
Oliver was presented with his award in front of his grade six class by the Parliamentary Secretary to the Premier, Heather Butler for raising $220 for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal with a unique fundraising idea.
Oliver’s idea arose from the fact that he was a very talkative student and he realised that it was likely that his school friends and teachers would sponsor him if he pledged to go for a whole school day without talking to raise money.
“Oliver’s fundraising efforts are a wonderful example of Australians doing what they can to help others in a time of need,” Ms Butler said.
“Oliver’s actions are clearly in line with the type of values that we identify with as Australians, including a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to the community, participation and a genuine concern for the environment.”
Congratulations Oliver!
