Australia’s own rock chick Vanessa Amorosi will headline next year’s free Australia Day Concert at Elder Park on Tuesday 26 January 2010 that for the first time will also include a spectacular fireworks display.

From the United States, where she is currently filming her next film clip, Vanessa said she was thrilled to be performing in Adelaide on a day of national pride.

“Adelaide is a great City, and to put on a free concert on Australia Day is a wonderful thing for all South Australians. I’m looking forward to rocking with you all come January 26 in 2010”

The Lord Mayor Michael Harbison said Australia Day in the City for 2010 would be bigger and better than ever, with a jam-packed schedule including the Annual Street Parade, fireworks and free family concert.

“In 2010, Australia Day in the City will move to a late afternoon and early evening format. This should encourage even more families to get down for some free live entertainment.

“Adelaide City Council is very proud to be hosting the State’s major celebration of Australia Day in the City. Elder Park will be the place for all South Australian’s to come together and celebrate our day of Australian pride,” the Lord Mayor said

Australia Day Council Executive Officer, Matthew Miles said the change to a twilight format will make it much more comfortable for all involved.

“We expect more than 20,000 people to join us in Elder Park for the fireworks and concert,” he said.

The Commonwealth Bank have injected thirty thousand dollars to support next year’s event with a spectacular fireworks display.

Commonwealth Bank, State Manager Retail SA, Ian Andrews said he was delighted to be able to support Australia Day in the City as it brings people together to celebrate our nation and way of life.

“The Commonwealth Bank and our people are determined to make a difference in the community and are proud to invest our time and money into initiatives that give genuine benefits to Australian communities,” Mr Andrews said.

For 2010 the timing of this event has changed from its traditional morning and middle of the day to now being a late afternoon and evening event. This change has been made so the event avoids the midday heat and should be more family-friendly.

Australia Day in the City kicks off with the 3000 person Australia Day Parade - winding its way through the City streets. The Parade starts at Hindmarsh Square and winds its way through Pulteney Street, along North Terrace and into King William Road and into Elder Park. Find out more about the Parade by clicking here.

Elder Park is the location for the rest of the day's activities, including entertainment from Aussie rock diva Vanessa Amorosi and support acts, a fireworks finale thanks to Commonwealth Bank and a whole lot more.
