ACT Australia Day Ambassador
The ACT is pleased to welcome Leo Sayer as the ACT Australia Day Ambassador for 2009.
Leo Sayer, originally from Sussex in England, is famous for his 1977 Australian number one hit - You make me feel like dancing. Leo’s first trip to Australia in 1974 saw him mobbed by fans when he arrived at Sydney Airport. His shows sold out and “Leomania” broke Australian box office records. 31 years later, Leo fulfilled his life time dream to live in Australia and moved to Sydney in late 2005.
Leo Sayer will kick off Australia Day by firing up the barbeque at the Australia Day favourite – the Great Aussie Day Breakfast at Regatta Point.
Leo will then be naturalised as an Australian citizen in the official lake-side ceremony from 10:30am fulfilling his long term wish to become an Australian.
Leo will then head to the Cotter Bush Picnic where he will make a speech about being an Australia Day Ambassador and what it means to be an Australian.

Leo will then take part in some local fun activities.
On Australia Day night Leo will again take the stage at the Australia Day Fireworks Finale to chat about being Australian and may also perform a hit or two.
