NEW CEO FOR NATIONAL AUSTRALIA DAY COUNCIL
Mr Lasek joins the NADC with a background in media and the Commonwealth and ACT Governments, where he has played leadership roles in communications, events, the arts, heritage and protocol.
Chair of the NADC, Mr Adam Gilchrist AM, said Mr Lasek’s experience in the media, government, large-scale events and community engagement would be a great asset to the organisation and its programs.
"We’re delighted to welcome Jeremy to the NADC team and the Australia Day network around the nation," said Mr Gilchrist.
“Jeremy is currently the executive leading the planning and delivery of Canberra’s ambitious 12-month centenary celebrations. In 2008 he helped organise a successful Beijing Olympic Torch Relay for the nation and he currently represents the ACT on a national government group tasked with planning the commemorations for 100 Years of ANZAC in 2015.
“For many years, Jeremy has worked closely with the National Australia Day Council and in fact he played a significant role in bringing the Australian of the Year Awards to the nation’s capital nearly a decade ago.”
“I look forward to working closely with Jeremy and the NADC team in continuing to increase Australia’s engagement and participation in our national day.”
Mr Lasek’s appointment will begin in September.
"I am excited to be joining an organisation which, since 1960, has shone a light on the achievements of so many great Australians. It is also a chance to join the national conversation about what’s great about Australia, a nation that deserves to be celebrated every single day of the year,” Mr Lasek said.
Based in Canberra, the NADC leads a network of state, territory and local committees in presenting Australia Day celebrations and the Australian of the Year Awards program.
The NADC is also delighted to announce the appointment of their newest Board Member, Mr Jason Glanville. Mr Glanville is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Indigenous Excellence, and has been appointed to the NADC Board for a period of three years.
