Announcement of CEO Resignation

The National Australia Day Council has announced Chief Executive Officer Mr Warren Pearson AM will leave the organisation at the end of January 2012 after ten years in the role.

Mr Pearson is leaving to take up the position of Assistant Secretary, Multicultural Affairs at the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.

Chair of the National Australia Day Council, Mr Adam Gilchrist AM, wished Mr Pearson the very best for the future and thanked him for his commitment to the organisation and to fostering national pride.

"Warren has been an extraordinary CEO for the organisation for ten years now and, combined with his previous roles, he has been actively involved in Australia Day for 17 years," said Mr Gilchrist.

"Warren's enthusiasm for generating pride amongst Australians, his vision for the Australian of the Year Awards and his passion for including all Australians have made a huge impact.

"While we will miss Warren at the National Australia Day Council, we thank him for his contribution and wish him the very best in his new role."

Ms Tam Johnston will be Acting Chief Executive Officer while a recruitment process is conducted to officially appoint a new CEO.
