Top End Orienteers are holding a "Come And Try It" FREE Orienteering event on Australia Day. In Orienteering, also known as "cunning running", you have to make your way around a course marked on a map in the shortest possible time. The course comprises a number of check points at map features such as track junctions or termite mounds. This event will have a 2km easy course and a 3km moderate course to choose from. You can run, walk or even push a sturdy baby's pram (on the 2km course only). It is the ideal way to exercise your mind and your body and is great for either individuals or families or groups of friends, of all ages, all fitness levels. Experienced club members and coaches will be on hand to get you started. Follow the Orienteering signs to Darwin Botanical Gardens' lower car park (off Gardens Rd) to the registration table. You can start anytime between 8am to 9.30am, you can even come after the Mindil Fun Run. The course closes at 11am. Socialise at a BBQ afterwards. There will be engraved Australia Day medals from the Australia Day Council as prizes to the Best Newcomer and the Best Group performance. For more information call Mani Bergout on 0429-435 112. Whether you are a regular, or have been meaning to give Orienteering a go, now is the perfect time to Come And Try It for free on Australia Day.
