An experienced Public Affairs and Strategic Communications Manager, Ian resigned from his role at the Carlton Football Club in February 2013 after more than 20 years with the AFL Club and is now consulting in strategic communications to a number of organisations in the sporting and not-for-profit sectors.
Ian’s extensive background in sports marketing and communications commenced during the 1991 as the Marketing Manager for the North Melbourne Giants Basketball Club in the National Basketball League (NBL) before switching codes to football.
After a brief stint at Fitzroy he joined the Carlton Football Club (the Blues) in 1992 where he spent more than 20 years. Initially in the Marketing Department as the Marketing Services Manager, in 1998 he became one of the first Communication/Media Managers for a Victorian based AFL Club.
Two years later Ian was appointed the General Manager Communications and became a member of the Senior Executive Team. Managing the media was part of Ian’s role which included the development and implementation of media and communications policies as well as reputation management initiatives for the Carlton Football Club.
Ian grew up in Kaniva, in the Wimmera region of Victoria, completing his schooling in the small town before moving to Melbourne where he has lived for over 30 years.
