Dr Stephen Silk
Stephen has been consultant and commercial manager to the owners of the world champion, undefeated racehorse Black Caviar since 2011.
Stephen graduated in Veterinary Science at Melbourne University in 1977. He completed a post graduate diploma in marketing at Monash University in 1983 following five years in equine veterinary practice.
Stephen worked for almost 20 years at Australia’s largest pharmaceutical company, CSL Ltd in various sales and marketing roles, including Sales and Marketing Director of the Pharmaceutical Division.
He worked at the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) from 2003 to 2010 as General Manager Strategic Marketing and General Manager Flemington, responsible for the tracks, grounds, gardens, stables and facilities. The VRC is Australia’s most successful race club and has conducted the Melbourne Cup for over 150 years. He oversaw the introduction of the VRC’s new brand strategy involving the “Flemington” “Melbourne Cup Carnival” and “VRC” brands, and was part of the management team delivering the Melbourne Cup Carnival annually.
After leaving the VRC, Stephen had a role as CEO of Magic Millions on the Gold Coast. He returned to Melbourne as a senior consultant with Slade Partners in executive search. He currently works at Australian Property Compliance involved with OH&S of commercial buildings and their safety as a workplace.
Stephen was formerly a board member of the Melbourne Racing Club, is a current board member of Greyhound Racing Victoria and the Doxa Youth Foundation which looks after disadvantaged youth. He is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
