David Mann OAM
David joined 3AW in 1973 after completing Matriculation at Blackburn High School, and is the longest serving employee of the Company now controlled by the Fairfax Radio Network. David started at 3AW as an office boy, he then moved into panel operating, became a cadet journalist, and started an announcing career. He was an on-air personality for 15 years, whilst progressing through various positions such as Production Manager, Creative Director, and is now Promotions & Marketing Manager, a position he has held for twenty years.
He is known as “Mann About Town” with his roving reporting on social and corporate events around Melbourne.
David has his own company Mann Promotions Pty Ltd which consults on promotional, marketing and public relations activities for clients throughout Australia. Within the company he takes up other roles with clients such as the Metropolitan Fire Brigade Melbourne.
He occupies some Government appointments such as a member of the Australia Day Committee (Victoria), Chairman Ministerial Crime Prevention Council, Chairman Ministerial Small Business Council, and is also Chairman of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Day Community Council, Chairman for the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Restoration Development and Maintenance Trust. David was appointed to the Starlight Children’s Charity Victorian Advisory Board in September 2010 and is also a member of such organizations as; The Thoroughbred Club of Australia, the 41 Club and an Ambassador for Community Safety Month and Harmony Day, and the Community Patron of Neighborhood Watch Victoria.
David is a former Chairman of the Royal District Nursing Service and is a Fellow of the Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Sales Institute and a representative on over a dozen other committees. He is a past President of the Victorian Radio Time Club that is representative of the entire Victorian Radio Industry.
David is known in the Emergency Services circle as “the civilian with the trifecta of experience with the Victoria Police Force, the Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade and Ambulance Victoria”. He has worked operationally with all of these services over a period of thirty years.
David has travelled extensively over the last 20 years across the United States working with the Emergency Services and he now lectures to Emergency Service personnel on the role of the media in Australia and the organisation of the Emergency Services in the United States. In recognition of his dedication to the Emergency Services David was awarded a “Centenary Medal” by the Governor General in April 2003.
David was awarded the Sir John Reid Community Service award by the Rotary Club of Melbourne for Outstanding Services to the Community during 2003 and was appointed as a patron of the Hanging Rock Racing Club in December 2003.
In January 2004, David joined highly respected business leaders from Qantas, Myer Grace Bros and McDonalds International as an Ambassador of ICSP – International Customer Service Professionals, dedicated to lifting Australian customer service standards.
David was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) “For service to the community through a range of police, nursing, heritage and emergency services organisations” in the Australia Day National Honours List in January 2006. In March 2007, David was appointed to the Committee of the Order of Australia Association (Victorian Branch). In November 2010, David was appointed the Deputy Chairman (metropolitan) of the Order of Australia Association (Victorian branch).
David was appointed as an Ambassador to Victoria’s Small Business Festival – Energise Enterprize 08 in February 2008.
David was appointed an Ambassador in September 2008 for the Healthy Parks, Healthy People International Congress 2010.
David was appointed by the Australia Day Committee Victoria as an Australia Day Ambassador in November 2008.
In July 2009, David was honoured with a life membership of the Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation.
In March 2011 David was appointed to the Melbourne City Council Moomba Festival Board.
David Mann was appointed to the Lord Mayor’s Charitable Foundation Fundraising and Marketing Committee in February 2011.
Awarded the 41 Club Tony Charlton award for service to media and community, August 2013.
He has vast experience in the areas of hosting and compering corporate events and David can be seen as a vehicle for taking Melbourne’s No 1 radio station 3AW to the discerning audience.
