During a career of 27 years in Local Government working as an Environmental Health Officer, Bob took leave to work with the International Committee of the Red Cross to some of the world’s worst human tragedies. These disasters include conflict zones in Uganda, Iraq, Rwanda, Kosovo and Sri Lanka. Bob has also worked throughout Asia and the Pacific including significant natural disasters like the Boxing Day Tsunami in Banda Aceh and Cyclone Nargis in Myanmar.
In 2007, Bob left Local Government and joined Australian Red Cross as Manager, Water and Sanitation, International Emergencies. His work in this position has included the establishment of the Australian Red Cross Disaster Response Team which has a response capacity in emergency water , emergency shelter , vector control and sanitation. In the past four years this team has been deployed to disasters in India , Vietnam , Myanmar , Papua New Guinea , Cook Islands , Solomon Islands , Samoa and New Zealand.
