Annually since 1997, Australia Post has bestowed the status of "legend" on a select group of Australians, who have made a unique contribution to our way of life, inspired the community and influenced the way Australians think about themselves and their country, with stamps designed in their honour.
The Australia Post Australian Legends Award is presented each year as part of Australia Day celebrations to honour individuals who have made a lifetime contribution to the development of our national identity and character.
Star Footballers to be honoured this year
In 2012, the Australia Post Australian Legends Award will recognise eight of Australia’s greatest football heroes. Together, these living legends will represent the four codes of football – Aussie rules, soccer, rugby union and rugby league - with one all-time legend and one current playing legend representing each sport.
