86 days to go

Peter Wynn

Born 23.12.57 in Maitland, I lived in country towns Blayney, Temora, Werris Creek and Muswellbrook, because my father moved regularly as a Railway Stationmaster with the State Government.

In 1975 I completed 6th form at Quirindi High School. After being awarded a Teachers College Scholarship, I moved to Wollongong to study secondary mathematics between 1976 and 1978.

After gaining my Diploma of Teaching in 1978, I began a teaching career at Maroubra Bay High School in 1979. Up until I resigned from the Education Department in 1989, I also taught at the following schools – Mitchell High at Blacktown, Whalan High School at Mt Druitt, St Johns Park High School at Fairfield and Riverstone High School.

When I resigned from teaching I opened my own retail business called Peter Wynn’s Score in Parramatta along side my brother in law Mark Asses.

Rugby League has always been a big part of my life. As a 4st7lb “MIDGET” I began playing in the Temora Schoolboy Competition in 1964. My family moved to Werris Creek in 1967 and I played all my junior football with the Werris Creek Magpies and my schoolboy football with St. Joseph’s Convent at Werris Creek and Quirindi High School up to 1975. Between 1976 and 1978 I played grade with the Thirroul Butchers whilst I was at Teachers College in Wollongong.

After representing Illawarra Division in the Amco Cup and the Caltex Divisional Championship, I won selection to play for Country 1st at the Sydney Cricket Ground in 1978. I was then signed by Parramatta and played with the Eels for the 12 seasons between 1979 and 1990.

Highlights of my career include representing Country, City, NSW, State of Origin and Australia, playing in Grand Finals and becoming a Life Member of Parramatta Eels. From 1987 – 1990 I served as Club Captain of the Parramatta Eels.

I served on the A.R.L and N.S.W.R.L Judiciary Tribunal from 1992 – 1995.

In 2002 I was selected as one of the 13 Parramatta Legends, an honour which I dedicated to my mother and father for their devoted support.

Recently I accepted a role as the Regional Ambassador for Northcott (formerly the Society for Crippled Children). Since 1989 I have sponsored and supported the Parramatta Eels in a corporate capacity.

Since 2000 I have been an Australia Day Ambassador visiting Quirindi, Blayney, Brewarrina, Walgett, Byron Bay, Harden, Parramatta, Blacktown, Canterbury, and this year Botany Bay.
